Mount Fear East London
Mount Fear East London is an installation by Abigail Reynolds in 2002-03. Using felony data provided by the London Police, it represents the sex and violent crime rate in London. Reynolds produced a digital topographical map using this data and then using corrugated cardboard she represented this visually.
The peaks, or mountainous areas, represent areas of London with a greater sex and violent crime rate. Whilst the troughs, or valleys, represent low crime rate areas. The larger the peak, the more crime occurred in these areas. Therefore those who live and/or work in these areas are more at threat from being a victim of a violent or sex crime. Thus this installation is a metaphor for the dangers these people face.
